Greetings blog readers!! Have you missed me? I regret that I've been a bit procrastinatey lately and have been putting off all the great things I've been doing. So, tonight I am now blogging about the eight items I have managed to check off my list. Regrettably, I have no pictures at this time to add. Well, let me rephrase that: I have pictures I just have no idea how to get them off my camera and on to this blog on the computer I am currently using. Any of you who follow me on Facebook will be able to see some corresponding pictures on there. I was going to try to do these in chronological order, but I'm a bit tired and that would require, you know, brain power. So instead I am doing these in numerical order. Here goes.....!
21. Bake a Martha Stewart cupcake recipe.
As my nephew Brodie's third birthday crept closer I decided it was the perfect time to try out one of the recipes out of my Martha Stewart cupcake book. May I just say, holy crap the woman uses a lot of unsalted butter sticks!!! Between the cupcake and the frosting I'm pretty sure even Paula Dean would've shed a tear of pride. I chose the Yellow Buttermilk Cupcakes with Fluffy Vanilla Frosting. They were delicious. I was used to baking out of a box so it threw me for a loop at how long the whole process was. But when I served them and watched everyone enjoying them it was a much bigger sense of pride than something out of a box. I think I'm going to try a new recipe for my birthday in August.
35. Read 10 Books...etc
I chose The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens for my second book off the list. I admit I chose this because I was/am a huge fan of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and there is a chapter in her book where the sisters have their own Pickwick club. I was always intrigued by this so I thought this was as good a time as any to read the book. I don't think I will ever read it again. It was extremely long and a little on the boring side. But it's done. That's about all I can say.
54. Plan a Vacation (and Hopefully Take It)
It was a bit last minute, but when I had a month with an extra pay week in it I decided to take advantage and plan a trip. Booking the train was easy, booking the hotel was not. But finally I was able to find the Courtyard Marriot that had reasonable rates and was able to crash with a couple friends my first night there. I went to Alexandria, VA to see my friends that I had there from when I lived there for a year. It was so great to see them all again!! I went in to DC with my old roommate, went out to a bar on a Friday night (shocker I know), went to the movies, ate out by myself, slept in... Sigh. Perfect. Some day I will take a trip to a different place, but it is nice to go some place you are comfortable with.
55. Get Winchester Fixed
While this was something I had been meaning to do since December, there were two big reasons that pushed me to do it sooner rather than later. Our living situation changed and there was a bit of a peeing to mark his territory. And if you've ever been around unfixed male cat pee, you know it is not a pleasant smell. Second was when he discovered the one cat in the house was a girl and he decided he wanted to make her his girlfriend whether she wanted it or not. Now he is fixed and seems quite happy without his male pieces. Snip snip:)
77. Visit an Aquarium
One of the things I wanted to do when I went to Alexandria was go in to DC and see the aquarium. Considering Rochester doesn't have one and it was something I wanted to do, it seemed like a good opportunity. While it is not the biggest or best aquarium, it was still pretty cool. I got to see a lot of cool fish and even some sharks!!! I do hope some day to get to a bigger aquarium, but in the mean time I can cross it off the list. PS to all you Bones fans: the aquarium they used on the show is quite obviously not even close to the real aquarium. FYI.
89. Take Marni and Liam Out to Dinner to Celebrate Their Wedding
Marni and I have known each other since the summer before our freshman year of college when we called each other and bonded over General Hospital. (If you're keeping track that's been 15 years) We were roommates for two years in college and when I lived in Virginia she was my roommate. So when she got married this past fall I was upset that I couldn't afford the trip down to be there for her. I told her then that the next time I saw her and her husband I would take them out to dinner as a congratulations/apology. So when I went on vacation we went out to Ted's Montana Grill. So yummy. Well, we tried to go to a Mexican restaurant but it was Cinco de Mayo. Enough said. It was a lot of fun and it was really great to see the two of them again. Mazel Tov!!!
93. Buy a White Sundress
As I've said, this is something that I want to do every summer but I always miss my opportunity. Then one Sunday I got the Target ad and saw we had dresses on sale that week, including a white one. I bought it and it sat in my closet for oh, about three months before it got warm enough. Then all I needed was the perfect opportunity to wear it. That happened about two weeks ago when my sister had her wedding shower.
96. Buy and Wear a Pair of Wedge Sandals
I bought these a few months ago as well, and decided not only was the shower a good chance to wear the dress but also a good chance to wear the shoes as well. Very cute pewter small wedge sandals. They were comfortable and I'm hoping to get a chance to wear them again.
So there's my update. A lot has happened in the last month and it's been a good feeling to knock a few more items off the list. I'll try in a couple weeks to do an update on some of my ongoing items but I'm just a bit too tired right now. Good night:)
